Description

"Bread and Satellite" , by Erik Pevernagie, oil on canvas, 80 x 100 cm.

Panem et circenses. " Bread and games". Time hasn’t changed since the Romans. People still need bread and games. They need food and amusement: satellite dishes, television, distraction.

The constraints of the stomach have to be met: "First comes the feeding, then comes morality," (“Erst kommt das Fressen und dann die Moral” says German writer Bertolt Brecht ) and the hunger for entertainment has to be stilled. The painting abstracts bread and satellite for amusement.

Phenomenon: Primary human needs

Factual starting point: Bread and satellite
