Tolerance zero , by Erik Pevernagie, oil on canvas, 100 x 80 cm

In the light of the « slippery-slope-syndrome », tolerance of slight cases of misbehavior or unusual and erratic conduct, is increasingly leading to more tolerance for more extreme, deviating cases of delinquency.

In the course of the past decades tolerance has been softened or hardened, depending on social incidents. Many think that « political correctness” is often used as a pretense or argument to claim tolerance for questionable forms of misconduct. They see it as a calculated trick, a trap for countering any enforcement of existing laws.

Voltaire defends tolerance and freedom of speech and declares:” "I do not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." Many ask, in the name of freedom of expression, should there be tolerance for intolerance? Is everything ‘sayable’? How do we deal with slander and libel and blasphemy? What is the right time for Tolerance Zero to be implemented ?

Questionable forms of bad language may also be classified among the chapter of tolerance and lead to disturbance.

Foulmouthed individuals have their neuron systems replaced by colon structures, given that their terminology profusely consists of "sh*t and f*ck".

Phenomenon: Tolerance

Factual starting point of the picture: Uniformed persons opposing people.
